How can I download DirectX9 for free?

My computer used to run games like Minecraft and The Sims 2, now it doesn't work and says that I have a bad graphic card driver and that I need DirectX 9.0 installed. I've tried getting it to download, but it never works and I end up having to go through a long process of installing, being ripped off, uninstalling, and searching for something else. Help?
