Do I have a good chance of getting custody?

My ex decided to leave state with my 2 year old son and go ove 900 miles away to his home town with out my knowing...after he lied to the police that he wouldn't..Came home and they were gone. I thank god got him back with in a few days after getting an order of protection.But now we have to go through custody. I am a part-time worker and go the school full time ...the father has been working on and off for the past year and is on parole...I am nervous that he will get him some how and I might lose him again...Advice needed..please
